TUR JCA (Delivering the Lead Judgment): On 12 June 2006, fourteen accused persons were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court Grade 11, Gidan Murtala, Kano, in Kano State. His Worship, Mohammed Sani Ismail, Chief Magistrate Grade 11 presided and read the first information report. The particulars were that the suspects had on 13 January 2006 entered into the premises of one Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Rimi of No.28 Durbin Katsina Road, Kano and committed the alleged offences by causing the death of Hajiya Sa’adatu Abubakar Rimi through the infliction of deep and grievous cuts to her neck with the intention of causing her death, contrary to sections 97(1) (sic) and 221 of the Penal Code. When the first informationreport was read in English and explained in Hausa, each of the suspects replied that the allegations were false. The prosecution was represented by DSP Ibrahim Bako.
