The Petitioner/Appellant seeks a reversal of the judgment of the Circuit Court, Takoradi, which awarded a lump sum payment of ¢100 million and an uncompleted building in favour of the Respondent.
The parties on 9th May 2006 married and thereafter co habited in Takoradi. There were no children to the marriage although the Petitioner, a German national, now domiciled in Ghana, has two issues from his previous marriage. Precisely one year after the wedding the appellant by special leave filed for divorce claiming irreconcilable differences, violent attacks and lack of fidelity on the part of the Respondent.
The respondent agreed the marriage had broken down and did not contest the petition for a divorce. She however blamed the petitioners excessive drinking, violent outbursts, unreasonable demand for sex, and his jealousy as the cause for the breakdown.
