Judgement

MUHAMMAD JCA (Delivering the Lead Judgment): On 14 April 2007, elections were held throughout Nigeria into the Governorship seats of the thirty-six States of the Federation. Eleven candidates representing various political parties contested the governorship seat in Borno State. At the end of the election, the 1st respondent, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, ,who was sponsored by the All Nigeria Peoples’ Party (ANPP) was declared the winner with 688,763 (sixhundred and eighty-eight thousand, seven hundred and sixty-three) votes. The candidate sponsored by the Peoples’ Democratic

Party (P.D.P), one Kashim Ibrahim Imam, came second with 307,764 (three hundred and seven thousand, seven hundred and sixty-four) votes. The appellant who contested the election on the platform of Action Congress (A. C.) was third with 57,468 (fifty-seven thousand, four hundred and sixty- eight) votes.
