AN ACT of Parliament to give effect to Article 50 (9) of the Constitution; to provide for protection of victims of crime and abuse of power, and to provide them with better information and support services to provide for reparation and compensation to victims; to provide special protection for vulnerable victims, and for connected purposes.

Part I – PRELIMINARY

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Victim Protection Act, 2014.

2. Interpretation

(1)In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—"accused" means a person who is charged with an offence under any written law;"agency" means the Witness Protection Agency established under section 3A of the Witness Protection Act, 2006 (No. 16 of 2006);"Board" means the Victim Protection Board established under section 19;"Cabinet Secretary" means the Cabinet Secre…
