Judgement

AKAAHS, J.C.A. (Delivering the Leading Judgment): On 5th December. 1998. the provisionally registered political parties sponsored candidates for election for Chairmanship of Local Government and Councillorship seats throughout the country. And in Bayelsa State four candidates vied for the Chairmanship of Brass Local Government. The candidates were Ebi Mathew Goli who was sponsored by the A.D. Dr. Ebilatei Benson Dadigi contested under A.P.P. while Godwill Ebiri Ezeke and Godwin Dede were sponsored by the N.S.M. and P.D.P. respectively.

At the end of the election, Godwill Ebiri of the N.S.M, was declared winner having scored 32,455 votes, Dr. Ebilatei Dadigi, the APP candidate came second with 11,980 votes while Godwill Dede of the PDP got 9,698 votes and Mathew Goli the AD candidate was credited with 144 votes. Mr. Godwin Dede was not satisfied with the declaration of Godwin Ebiri Ezeke as the winner of the election; hence he lodged a petition to the Local Government Council Election …
