CHIOMA EGONDU NWOSU-IHEME, J.S.C.ย (DELIVERING THE LEADING JUDGEMENT):

INTRODUCTION

This appeal arose from the decision of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division in Appeal No. CA/S/134c/2017 coram: Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, JCA, Hon. Justice Uzo I. Ndukwe Anyanwu, JCA, Hon. Justice Adamu Jauro, JCA, Hon. Justice Adewale O. Abiru, JCA and Hon. Justice Abdullahi M. Iiayero, JCA delivered on 28th November, 2018. The lower Court in that judgment set aside the decision of the trial Court and convicted the Appellant on Counts 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 respectively for the offences contrary to Section 15(1)(a)(ii), 15(2)(a) and 15(2)(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.ย 

SUMMARY OF FACTS

The appellant was a public officer, the Executive Chairman of Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board. It was alleged that while in that position he was engaged in running private businesses including execution of contracts awarded by thโ€ฆ
