ADEKEYE, JCA (Delivering the Lead Judgment): The appellant, Mrs. Kathleen Olaofe, was offered an appointment by the respondent; council of the University of Ibadan as a programmer in the University Computing Centre as from the 1st of July 1969. She rose through the ranks to the level of Chief System Programmer, such qualified her to become the acting director of the centre, a post which she held until she was compulsorily retired from the service of the University by a letter dated the 17th of August 1989. Her retirement was sequel to the recommendations of the visitation panel set up to look into the affairs of the University adopted by the then President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, as Visitor of the Institution.
